QualityCoast 2011 

European sustainable coastal tourism.

 The Community Council of Kouklia (Cyprus), AKTI Project and Research Centre (Nicosia) and the Coastal & Marine Union – EUCC are organising a European sustainable coastal tourism workshop in Kouklia (east of Paphos) on 13 May. Participants will learn about new developments in the QualityCoast programme. At the workshop the annual QualityCoast Awards will be presented to coastal towns from Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Portugal, Romania and Spain. Representatives from top quality tourism destinations will present success stories and good practice examples.

Consumers are increasingly interested in sustainability issues when selecting their holiday destination. However, other aspects may prevail in choosing their destination. In this context, EUCC is developing tools to help consumers in making a more informed choice. Researchers and local authorities focusing on sustainable or "green tourism" shouldn’t miss this event!

Venue

Sanctuary of Aphrodite, in the medieval castle of Kouklia (Cyprus), near Petra tou Romiou, mythical birth places of the goddess Aphrodite. The event is hosted by the President of the Community Council of Kouklia, with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Cyprus, the Coastal & Marine Union – EUCC, and AKTI Project and Research Centre (Nicosia).
